Joe Elliott discussed the album release on “The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show,” mentioning that he dueted with himself on the Drastic Symphonies track for “Too Late For Love.”

“I did a duet with myself from 40 years ago. It’s the most bizarre thing I’ve ever done. But it was great fun. The timing and the phrasing came to me instantly — it’s like it never left my DNA — but it was one of the strangest things I’ve ever done.”

Rock and classical royalty unite on brand new euphoric album Drastic Symphonies – Def Leppard’s greatest produced tracks dramatically reimagined and sounding larger and more exhilarating than ever before, teamed with London’s iconic The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Recorded at Abbey Road Studios, and including new vocals and instrumental from the band, Drastic Symphonies is available May 19th on clear and standard 2LP, limited edition 2LP picture disc, 1CD/Blu-ray, 1CD and digital formats.

Drastic Symphonies is not only a reimagining of the band’s biggest tracks, but of those that have not yet enjoyed their full moment in the limelight. Produced with the original master tapes and alongside new arrangements for orchestra, the album includes new vocals and guitars to embellish the symphony – with Joe even dueting his original vocal takes.

Joe Elliott: “Def Leppard has always enjoyed veering off the expected path — working with the likes of Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift and Alison Krauss, for example. So, when the offer to revisit some of our back catalogue with the Royal Philharmonic was presented to us, to a man we all jumped at it. Although we’re far from the first band to ever do this, working directly with an orchestra at Abbey Road on some of our more orchestrated songs seemed too good of an opportunity to pass up.”

Phil Collen: “It’s a new Def Leppard album, it’s a greatest hits plus album with some songs rarely heard before, it’s a live RPO album and we think it’s perfect. We’re so proud of how ‘Drastic Symphonies’ turned out and can’t wait to share it to the world.”

The band will also be doing an in-store signing for the release on May 20th, the day after it’s officially available:

​”To celebrate the release of Drastic Symphonies and the forthcoming show at Bramall Lane, Def Leppard will be doing an in-store signing at HMV in their hometown of Sheffield.”

The band’s social media sites had been posting several mysterious “teaser” videos, showcasing an abandoned house, a violin on the floor, etc… Now we know it was for this Drastic Symphonies release (which, incidentally, will be coming out the same month as the band’s forthcoming Definitely: The Official Story of Def Leppard book).
